Detecting the pressure waves associated to a sound or noise has numerous fields of application. In addition to being used in audio recording and reproduction chains, it can also serve to monitor ultrasound associated with the functioning of electrical equipment and enable preventive maintenance in a factory automation environment.

Depending on the use case, microphones can be selected to meet the bandwidth, acoustic overload point (AOP), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and sensitivity matching specifications – as required by multi-microphone arrays for beamforming and noise cancelling applications – as well as for their size, resistance to environmental conditions and power consumption.

ST’s broad range of MEMS analog and digital microphones enables engineers to find the right performance point and form factor – with small bottom-up and bottom-down port packages – to design engaging audio experiences or accurate measurement systems.
